GNC's FREE Sample Workouts
01.05.04 (6:50 pm) [edit]
I provided a link to GNC's Sample Workouts in the sidebar. I wanted to backup and comment on the resource. I actually use one of them and it's pretty good. You have to register to have access to the site, but you don't have to pay to use the free workout samples. There's a great Fitness Glossary available and GNC even gives you easy to read details that outline exactly how to do every exercise. Other websites that give you directions on how to do an exercise kinda half-ass do it.
Anyway, the samples work for me, but they may not work for others.

Women and weight training

Interesting Stuff. I thought this was a good place to start. Women's Life, your channel for life writes: Women and weight training Do you find your current exercise routine boring? Start weight training. It is an excellent way to get your body in shape and chances are that you may even drop one or two dress sizes. Weight training challenges your muscles, which means you will have more muscles and less fat, that is if you do weight training on a regular basis. Weight training has the following benefits: Increases energy burning muscles; this means that you burn more kilojoules, even when watching television Tones muscles Lessens chances of getting osteoporosis Helps fight depression Helps control blood sugar and cholesterol Helps boost energy levels Arthritis sufferers experience less arthritis pain
Some tips to help you get started: Start with very light weights Do about 12 to 20 repetitions. If you cannot do twelve repetitions, get lighter dumbbells. If you can easily do 20, get heavier dumbbells Do weight training every second day because your muscles need 24 hours to recover The following exercise will get you started on your weight training programme: The bicep curl (targets the front of the upper arms) Sit on a bench with your elbows bent at your sides. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and make sure that your palms face upwards. Lower the dumbbell towards the floor while bending your elbows and then lift the dumbbells three quarters of the way to your shoulders. Start again and do this exercise 12 times. R. | Gettin' Off My Ass: It's Gettin' Big |
01.05.04 (6:32 pm) [edit]
This isn't my New Year's Resolution, although the timing is a bit coincidental. I'm making better choices about my physical health because I need to (and want to). The last 5 months of 2003, I spent drinking too much, eating too much and neglecting my mental health. It's time to reevaluate my life and go back to living a healthy lifestyle. I bought a home gym and a membership to my local YMCA. I purchased workout clothes (cute little pants and tshirts) and I'm recruiting a workout partner. I'm completely psyched about all this -- the same feeling I had the last time I made the commitment to take better care of myself. I lost 75 pounds that time. I didn't keep a journal then, so I'm really excited about doing it this time around. I don't buy into any of those popular diet plans (South Beach, Atkins, etc). I'm just watching my caloric intake, severely cutting back on carbos, sugar, and alcohol and making sure I drink enough water. I'll workout 3 - 4 times a week, making sure I eat at least 6 small meals a day -- just like I did the last time when I lost 75 pounds -- and hope for the best. What are your plans for a better physical and mental you for the new year?
